Why buy video games when you can rent

Friday, February 5th, 2010

How can you be sure you’re getting the best price on video games? It used to be that renting video games was a great solution and as inexpensive and easy as visiting your corner movie rental store. Unfortunately passionate game enthusiasts who rent many games at one time found how fast those rental charges can add up. Include the heartache of failing to return a bundle of games by the due date and you’ll find that the late fees can really hurt.

Here are some helpful tips for getting the best deal on video games or video game rentals.

First, ask your community library. Many offer free video game rentals to the community. You already paid for their selections with your taxes so you might as well get your money’s worth.

Video Game Review Sites - Generally websites offering video game reviews include game details, ESRB ratings, available systems, even actual gameplay footage. Check out the video graphics online first. You might find the game is too violent for your appetite or not acceptable for your young children, even if the ratings indicate it should be appropriate.

Never Pay Full Price - With online discount companies like eBay and Amazon, there’s simply no reason to pay full price ever again. Many times you’ll find games for PlayStation 3 on sale by checking these sites first.

Rent Video Games Online - Quite a few companies offer online video game rentals for one small monthly fee. Members select from over 6000 of the most popular games, delivered right to their mailbox, can keep them as long as they want, never pay late fees for holding them too long, and return them to the company with postage-paid envelopes. If you find a game you like, simply tell the company and you can keep it for a small fee. A few sites like GameFly offer a free trial period. Try them out to see how their service works before you join.

Avid gamers who are serious about their hobby can save a ton of money when they know where to look.

Usually there are outside factors that dictate when we move like; a new job, the sale of a house, kids schools, and getting evicted. I hope you are not moving because of eviction, but it does happen. If you do have the choice of when you move and need to be moving cheap then pick winter.

Many places around the country have a ton of ice and snow during certain months. You should probably avoid those times. Moving trucks usually do not have studs or snow tires. But you will have to use your own judgment on that. Moving cheap is also quite possible in the early spring and late fall. Just avoid the summer.

Why should you avoid the summer if at all possible? Everyone and there dog is trying to move during the summer. You are going to be competing with a lot of other people for movers, moving trucks, and those containers for container moving. Just remember the law of supply and demand. The demand is higher than the supply in the summer so they can charge a premium. In the winter the demand is much lower than the supply so they are more likely going to give you a discount to get your biasness. Moving cheap in the winter is definitely the best way to go if you can.

Winter can also be a better time to get a rental or buy a home. Since most people are not looking in the winter so you might get to work with a desperate seller or land lord. This of coerce depends on the housing market. It does not hurt to try.
